— Research and Data Collection —
To compile our top ten list, we undertook an extensive data search and then cross-referenced the data, in order to obtain rankings based on realistic and factual findings.
The data we used in our compilation was gathered from the following sources:
- The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
- U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA).
- The Occupational Information Network (O*NET).
Most of our findings are based on the most recent list of National Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates – obtained from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Additional information was sourced from data obtained from more than 2 million verified LinkedIn users based in the United States. The LinkedIn report confirms that the highest paying medical jobs are indeed the highest paying jobs in the world – they’re one and the same.
The LinkedIn report also found out that the healthcare industry has a higher proportion of female professionals, though they get paid less than their male counterparts.
NOTE: The salary figures listed below are yearly median pay. It’s the average annual wage, including bonuses and other additional compensation. The salaries below reflect the annual wages of the average doctor or surgeon that works in public hospitals, not private institutions – those that work in private hospitals or clinics especially in affluent areas, obviously make a lot more and their income varies wildly from practice to practice, city to city and from state to state.
* WE ONLY FOCUSED ON THE HIGHEST PAYING > SALARY JOBS *
We have uncovered many interesting facts while compiling this top 10 list of the highest paying jobs in the world…
Highest Paid Doctors & Surgeons – Want More Money!
Almost 50% of doctors and surgeons from the highest paid medical specialties are unsatisfied with their wages and feel they’re being unfairly compensated, even though their bloated salaries increase more than 5% annually…
I just don’t get it! You’re among the highest paid surgeons and physicians, you earn more than enough money, yet you want some more! It seems people work in the medical field for all the wrong reasons…they don’t care about healing or treating the sick anymore…It’s all about the MONEY! What a SHAME!
Pay Disparity – Gender Gap Widens
According to data obtained from the University of Wisconsin, women who have the highest paying jobs in the medical field, get paid 30% less than their male colleagues with the same education, experience and qualifications.
Pay Disparity – Racial Gap Widens
While having the same exact education, experience and qualifications as their white counterparts:
- Hispanic/mixed-raced doctors get paid 6% less.
- Followed by Asians who get paid 7% less.
- Then black doctors who get paid 14% less.
Interesting stats indeed! This clearly shows that gender and racial discrimination occurs within the highest paid medical specialties…and the pay disparity is widening each and every year…so so SAD! Something really needs to be done about this.
